May 21, 2020: The lead battery event of the year — the European Lead Battery Conference — will not be held in Milan but, according to an ILA spokesperson on May 21, will be held as a virtual conference. The dates for the conference are unchanged.

“We have decided to hold the first ever virtual ELBC event. This is a landmark conference for the lead battery industry and many companies and individuals we have spoken to are keen that we continue to hold an event this September,” the spokesperson said.

“Clearly circumstances make it difficult to hold the live event in Milan, so we’re working on detailed arrangements for e-17ELBC, which will now take place as an online conference between September 22-24.”

The other major event of the lead conference calendar, the annual BCI congress that was due to be held in Las Vegas at the end of April, also had to be cancelled. That was held as a virtual conference and was widely regarded as a success.

One industry commentator said: “This must have been a tricky decision for ILA to make, but the intellectual content of many of the presentations is so high, not to hold a conference at all would be a disservice to us all.”
