BCI TO HOLD WEBINAR TO ‘REVISIT’ EARLIER FORECASTS OF LEAD-ACID BATTERY INDUSTRY

2022-03-29

August 27, 2020: Battery Council International is to host a webinar on September 9 to look at the coronavirus impact on the lead-acid battery industrial and transport markets.

Using BCI’s shipping data, the webinar will revisit forecasts made during the BCI convention in April, which had to be held online for the first time.

“We realize that the forecast we provided during our virtual convention earlier this year was too early to account for market disruption generated by Covid-19,” said BCI executive vice president Roger Miksad.

“Our goal is to provide our membership and others with a more informed picture of the marketplace based on current market data.”

At the online conference, Gridtential chairman Ray Kubis gave forecasts of growth for the industry in various sectors.

He predicted the total market for batteries in the transport sector would grow by 3% a year thanks to better AGM and EFB batteries across a larger replacement market, with bipolar batteries also growing by about $1.5 billion up to 2024.

He also said the SLI category was predicted to grow by 3%.

These forecasts are inevitably going to be adjusted, and Kubis will be joined by Nick Starita, president of the Energy and Industrial Systems division at Hollingsworth & Vose, to discuss the effects of Covid on the market.

Registration is open to the public and free to BCI members.
